This building, originally a cart shed built in the 18th century, was
converted to a school in the early 19th century.
The interior of West
Wittering
School
has original artefacts and is furnished to encourage role play and period
drama. The school is often used for our Victorian Schoolroom sessions.
Suggested Topics
A
‘hot-seating’ activity could take place whereby a pupil becomes the
Victorian school teacher and the rest of the class interview her about her
job, her attitude towards the children, her view of learning and what she
enjoys about teaching at the school. ‘Hot-seating’ is an excellent Speaking
and Listening activity and could help with the writing of a character sketch
of the Victorian teacher.
