There will be four sequential
activities which may be chosen from the following:
Tudor Textiles
Bayleaf Farmhouse - a typical Wealden house. After an exploration of
the furnished house, the importance of the wool trade in the region's
economy will be covered. There will be an opportunity to try carding and
spinning and to see the clothing that the cloth was turned into. The types
and qualities of woollen material and its importance will be discussed.
Students may try on the clothing !

First gather your children in the
Winkhurst modern hall. Explore
what Tudor children
might have eaten and then help to create a genuine Tudor
recipe
'excellent small cake' in Winkhurst
Tudor Kitchen.

Tudor Farming -
Explore the process of getting food from
the fields to the feast; including a tour of the Museum
The tour will start from
Redvins Yard adjacent to the cattle shed from Goodwood and will cover arable and pastoral
farming in the Tudor period, care of farm animals, arable field strips, use
of woodland and domestic gardens.

Apothecary Workshop -
Explore Tudor medicines by sight and smell and learn how they were thought
to work, students will have a chance to make their own
'Pomander Bead'. This
will take place in The Hall from Boarhunt -
afterwards the activity groups may look
over the house.

The
Games Tudor Children Played
Explore the differences and similarities between Tudor
Children playing and modern times. Develop investigative skills by
working as "detectives" looking for clues in a Breugel print and handling
replica items. This will take place in the Building from Lavant.
This Workshop has links to numeracy (problem solving
and accurate recording skills) and Citizenship Unit 8. It helps
to develop strategic thinking through tactical game play and the
consideration of the importance of rules.
This workshop also has links to Unit 1 'How our
toys are different from those in the past'.
